Robin Dale Bartholomew Wildlife Area
A new preserve, our first within the city limits of Valparaiso, contains a quarter mile of Salt Creek frontage. It is said to be one of the premier spawning areas of the entire length of the river. Part floodplain, part upland, this triangular parcel is within the 1863 encampment area of the Ninth Indiana Volunteer Infantry, a regiment that returned to Valparaiso for a recruiting drive following bloody actions at Shiloh and other battlefields during the Civil War.
This Robin Dale Bartholomew Wildlife Area was made possible by the generosity of Cynthia Anderson Keckeissen. A serene trail follows the length of the creek, providing public fishing access.
