Marne Woods
The Marne Woods in LaPorte County is 7 demonstration acres adjacent to the Kingsbury Fish and Wildlife Area. Most of this in 1990 was a sterile turnip field, but now it abounds with turkeys, coyotes and reptiles, with cranes circling overhead in spring and fall and hummingbirds visiting in summer. The anonymous donor of this property also has a Legacy Bequest to WSLC, though the land is optimally planted in native trees and will probably require minimal stewardship. Military history enthusiasts might recognize the name that commemorates a family member's service, and its symbolic location.
